Dow Chemical won a bid to restore a wraparound curtain that will encircle the Olympic Stadium for the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games. But, according to Olympic guidelines, the firm’s logo cannot be shown on the curtain.
The new wrap is comprised of 336 individual polyester panels, each about 25 metres high and 2.5 metres wide. According to an artist’s rendering a series of disconnected strips hang from the edge of the stadium skeleton.
Meanwhile transport minister Norman Baker is asking businesses to adopt remote working during the Games to reduce the expected pressure on London’s transport network. Up to 800,000 spectators and 55,000 athletes, officials, organizer and press will be travelling to and from Olympic venues daily.
Also organizers predict that on August 3, 2012, the first day of the track and field events, there will be an extra three million trips made on top of the 12 million trips on public transport made on an average London workday. Traffic is also expected to hit a peak at large venues such as the Olympic Stadium, Aquatic Centre, and Horse Guards Parade.
