London 2012 VeloPark Revealed

Plans for the London 2012 VeloPark were revealed and show that the venue includes a 6,000-seat velodrome to host the cycling events, as well as a BMX circuit. Once the Games are over, a road cycle circuit and mountain bike course will be added.

London 2012 will submit a planning application later this month and construction will begin in 2009.

According to London 2012 the designs of the VeloPark were developed following consultation with British Cycling and local cycling groups. After the Games the park will be linked to cycle routes across London connecting the entire city with the new facilities.

Olympics minister Tessa Jowell said, “the designs meet the challenging brief to provide not only a first-class Games venue, but also a springboard in legacy for future British Olympians and will make a valuable contribution to increasing sport participation from grassroots to elite level”.
