London 2012 To Celebrate Handover Ceremony

London 2012 officials announced Monday a program of festivities on Sunday August 24 when the handover ceremony takes place at the end of the Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

There will be a free concert for 40,000 people in The Mall – the centrepiece of celebrations – and the high point is expected at 3 p.m. when images will be beamed from China showing Beijing’s mayor passing the Olympic flag to his London counterpart Boris Johnson.

The event at Beijing’s Olympic stadium will be shown on giant screens at Canary Wharf, Trafalgar Square, Walthamstow, Newham and Notting Hill, and will be broadcast live on BBC 1 and Radio 2.

Street parties are being staged around giant screens in 13 towns and cities; and specially commissioned flags featuring the Olympic logo in red, white and blue will hang from council offices, Olympic venues and other public buildings.

Tickets are available on the London 2012 website.
