London 2012 Sells Olympic Village Housing Units

Organizers of the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games have completed a deal to sell almost half of the housing units in the Olympic Village after the 2012 Games are over.

The Associated Press reports the agreement with Triathlon Homes will allow the sale of 1,379 out of 2,800 homes in the east London development.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) will receive $442 million, which will provide affordable housing to workers in key fields such as nursing and teaching.

The British government will reportedly provide most of the money. The European Union bank is lending $156 million and Barclays Commercial bank is providing $104 million.
