London 2012 Releases Bid Blueprint

Bid officials have released London’s bid plans, ahead of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) inspection of London’s bid for the 2012 Games,

Reports say the blueprint for the London 2012 Games is based on extensive use of existing venues, rapid transport connections and state-of-the-art sporting facilities, linked to sustainable community benefits.

The “most spacious Athletes’ Village in the history of the Games”, will be located in the Olympic Park around Stratford in the east of London. It will be surrounded by key venues including the main athletics stadium, aquatics centre, velodrome, hockey centre and multi-sport indoor arenas for basketball, volleyball, fencing and other sports. It will also contain the main press and broadcasting centres.

Wembley Stadium, which will be reconstructed in 2006; Wimbledon; Hyde Park (for the triathlon) and Lord’s cricket ground (for archery) are some of London’s existing “world-class” venues that will be used if London wins the 2012 bid.
