Out of a total bid budget of 28 million pounds that has only 2.5 million allocated for promotional purposes, London 2012 is coming up with unique ways to try to get its message across to the British public that London can become the host city for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
The bid committee is in talks with the BBC to get the Olympic bid featured on the popular soap opera the Eastenders. Communications director Mike Lee said he had met with officials at the BBC to discuss a story line involving the possibility of London hosting the Games in eight days.
Lee said his team has been working with many sections at the BBC, including sport and Children’s BBC.
There have also been talks with ITV for nine months of programs, starting this summer, on issues surrounding London’s bid.
London 2012 will also be featured on baseball caps, ribbons and shopping bags and members of the public can demonstrate their support for the bid on the official London 2012 Web site.
