London 2012 Paralympics Torch Relay To Have Four Flames

London 2012 organizers said Thursday that four separate flames will be lit for the torch relay of the Paralympic Games. The flames will be lit in London, Belfast, Edinburgh, and Cardiff.

The torch relay starts August 24. A special ceremony will be held in Stoke Madeville August 28 to bring the flames together and create the Paralympic flame.

Five hundred and eighty torchbearers, working in teams of five, will then carry the flame to London for the Opening Ceremony on August 29.

Olympics Secretary Jeremy Hunt said, “the torch relay will take the Paralympics to each home nation helping to build excitement for the Games and awareness of disability sport”.

The London 2012 Paralympic Games end on September 9.
