Sir Keith Mills, Deputy Chairman for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), presented an update of London’s preparations for the Games to the Governing Board of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) ahead of the Turin 2006 Paralympics.
Mills said organizers were able to start work on planning for the Games the day after London was selected 2012 host city because it already had funding, planning permission and most of the land needed for the Games.
The international sports venues specialists HOK has been hired by LOCOG to provide technical briefs for venues in conjunction with the International Federations, sports governing bodies and the IPC to ensure that all venues for the 2012 Games are accessible to elite athletes from all backgrounds.
Sir Keith confirmed that LOCOG has begun working with the IOC on their master-schedule of Olympic planning and would meet with key IPC staff to develop similar processes when the Turin Paralympics are over.
Meanwhile the trial against the BBC journalists that created the film “Buying the Games” accusing Bulgarian Ivan Slavkov of corruption in the 2012 Olympic bidding process and vote purchasing, resulting in his expulsion from the IOC, has ended.
Bulgarian media claims that the trial has been terminated for lack of proof.
