London 2012 Olympic Park Plan Wins Award

The plans for the regeneration of the Lower Lea Valley based around a new Olympic Park won a top award at the 2004 London Planning Awards – for “Best planning conceptual project contributing to London’s future”.

According to the London 2012 Web site, if London becomes the host city for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, it would transform one of the UK’s most underdeveloped areas, providing thousands of new jobs, affordable housing and creating the largest new urban park in Europe for 150 years.

The plans were commissioned by the London Development Agency and were drawn up by a consortium of specialists in regeneration, sports and events management, urban design, architecture and transport.
