London 2012 Needs Venue For New Swimming Event

London 2012 organizers have to find an extra competition venue for the 10 km open-water swimming event, which was one of six new disciplines announced Thursday to be introduced at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

The Independent reports that possible locations for the freestyle race in which each lap must be at least two kilometres, include the rowing lake at Eton Dorney, already a Games venue, and the Royal Docks in London’s Docklands, which hosts the swimming section of the London Triathlon.

David Sparkes, the chief executive of British Swimming said they welcomed the inclusion of the new event.
