London’s bid committee for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games has released full details of its bid to stage the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is available as a link on the front page of GamesBids.com.
The 25-page document is in English and French and reveals that the city’s plans are based on a combination of strengths across a number of different areas.
According to the document 17 of the 28 Olympic sports are to be staged within 15 minutes of the athlete’s village, which will be a legacy for the surrounding communities after the Games.
The village would be used as housing and sports venues after the Games and the Olympic Stadium may become a football stadium.
The mini-bid book stresses several advantages over the other 2012 bid cities. The public transport network includes five airports. Regarding governmental support the document says that Tony Blair was the only head of state among the nine cities to appear at a campaign launch.
A report says that the bid campaign is working on a 28 million pound budget with 18 million and a two million contingency fund coming from public funds.
There are four tiers for bid sponsors – premier partners, contributors of one million pounds or more; major partners paying 500,000 to one million pounds; bid champions who pay 150,000 pounds to 500,000 pounds; and bid supporters, including those who will pay 15,000 to 150,000 pounds.
The amount contributed will affect the right to use bid partner logos, hospital agreements and general exposure.
