London 2012 Launches Logo Competition

Leaders of London’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games launched a logo competition Tuesday to find a logo for its 2012 bid.

Bid leader Barbara Cassani and bid marketing director David Magliano are holding a briefing on Sept. 17 for those interested in submitting entries to the logo competition.

Magliano said, “we have the best design talent in the world in London, world-class companies and outstanding individuals. We want them all to participate”.

London is expected to focus on the multi-cultural nature of its society.

London is trying to catch up with its rival for the 2012 Games, Paris. The city launched its logo in a glitzy ceremony last May. Paris’ slogan for the 2012 bid is “The Games of all the colours”.

Meanwhile, London’s old age pensioners are fighting to stop London’s mayor from imposing a levy on Londoners to help pay for the Olympic bid.

The Bexley Borough Pensioners’ Forum said that “many Bexley pensioners will be dead before the Olympic flame is lit. Yet they’ll be expected to pay this levy till the day they die”.

Members unanimously backed a resolution opposing plans to make Londoners pay towards the costs of staging the 2012 Games.
