London 2012 – High Demand For Tickets

Since registration began a month ago for the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games there has been a high demand for tickets to the Games by at least one million people.

The highest demand is in London and the South East, but only four per cent of inquiries have come from abroad, reports This Is London.

London 2012 organizers said 96 per cent of registrations came from Britain, but there hasn’t been any information regarding registration outside of Britain because organizers want to boost the home crowds.

About 400,000 people expressed an interest in attending the Paralympics.

LOCOG chairman Sebastian Coe said it showed the public had an appetite for “world class” sport, adding “we are thrilled by the level of interest which has been significant across all Olympic and Paralympic sports. The British public is enthused by the prospect of world class sport coming to these shores”.

To register fans must give their personal information and indicate which of the Olympic and Paralympic sports they are interested in.

Organizers said that three-quarters of the eight million tickets for the London 2012 Games will be made available to the public at an affordable price, while only one per cent will be for the “prestige hospitality” market.

Of the 10 million Olympic and Paralympic tickets, 75 per cent will be sold via a public ballot reports This Is London.

Tickets will go on sale by public lottery in the spring of 2011.
