Six west London boroughs have formed an alliance to lend their support to London’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. The West London Alliance will hand Lord Coe, chairman of the London 20122 bid, a blueprint of how west London can contribute to the Games, at an event in Wembley, northwest London.
Although the bid proposal to the IOC focuses on the Lea Valley area of east London, the alliance says the IOC has to be convinced that the whole of London is behind the bid for it to succeed.
Ann John, leader of Brent Council, one of the boroughs said, “if London’s bid is to be truly successful it needs to benefit all the citizens of our city”. She said it was important to demonstrate to the IOC that a strong cultural program will be run in parallel with the Games, and that this, along with the sporting activities, will contribute to achieving one of the Olympic movement’s central aims, international community cohesion.
She added, “we would showcase our talent through a series of cultural events called “Bringing West London to the World”.
