London 2012 Gets A Boost From Commonwealth

The Sunday Mirror reports it was revealed Saturday that the British Commonwealth is ready to pledge 40 per cent of the votes London needs to win the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

According to the newspaper London needs 52 votes to beat frontrunner Paris when the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) 103 voting members select a 2012 host city in Singapore July 6.

The Sunday Mirror reports that Ron Walker, head of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, said that as many as 19 votes, from IOC delegates in nations of the former British Empire, are already in the bag.
