Leading business organizations in London have written to British Prime Minister Tony Blair asking him to back a bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
The London Business Board, a coalition of the CBI London, London Chamber of Commerce and London First wrote Blair that a bid is “a unique opportunity” for the city.
“Bidding for the Olympics will reinforce London’s position as a world city. Hosting the Games will provide real net benefits to the U.K. in terms of tourism and inward investment. It will also act as a major catalyst to regenerate the inner Thames Gateway, one of the most deprived areas of Europe”, wrote the group.
The business leaders called the bid an exciting project, which can provide a lasting legacy for the Thames Gateway, London and the entire U.K.
