If London wins the bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, the proposed 80,000-seat athletic stadium and velodrome track could be history once the Games are over.
It seems the stadium could be a blight on the Lower Lea Valley site if no anchor tenant could be found for it and could be dismantled, reports The Observer.
Tony Winterbottom, a director of the London Development Agency, the economic development body for London said, “many people are talking about what they’re going to do with the stadium afterwards. As far as we’re concerned we’ve written it off”.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said that collapsing stadia would not compromise London’s bid.
Barbara Cassani, head of the bid, will choose the architect an architect this week for the stadium and velodrome.
