The Guardian reports that organizers of London’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games are reconsidering the location of its main stadium to move it closer to public transport links.
According to the newspaper bid planners now believe the factories and warehouses of Marshgate Lane, close to Stratford, offer a better option than the disused Hackney dog track in east London.
The alternative site is also attractive for security reasons because the entire area could be fenced off. Also, Marshgate Lane is much closer than Hackney to Stratford tube and underground station and to the proposed Stratford International terminus, which will take trains from the Channel Tunnel rail link.
Meanwhile, London’s bid committee has made the final appointments to its management team. The bid now has a Director of Sport, a Finance Director and a Commercial Director.
Barbara Cassani, head of London 2012 said, “we have a highly talented, knowledgeable and dedicated team to lead our bid. Now that our senior management is fully in place, we can turn all our attention to our first submission to the International Olympic Committee in January”.
