People’s Daily reports a press release from the British Embassy in China said everything being constructed for the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games will be designed to use less energy by using less energy-intensive materials and transporting half of the construction materials to the Olympic Park by water or rail instead of air.
During and after the Games on site renewable energy sources such as wind turbine will provide at least 20 per cent of energy requirements and all competition venues will be operated in low emission ways.
With the Olympic Park close to transport connections, spectators will be encouraged to travel to venues via public transport, and new footpaths and bicycle routes will be built.
The city is also planning to use plants in the Olympic Park that are native to south-east England which would enable it to handle any heavy rainfall while providing shade, said the press release.
Waste is to be reused and recycled and more than 90 per cent of material demolished to make way for the Olympic Park will be reused.
Also key species affected by the construction of the Olympic Park have been relocated.
