London 2012 Bid Logo Selection Criticized

Although the logo for London’s 2012 bid has not yet been unveiled, the process for choosing the logo has been heavily criticized by one of the judges and some design agencies that didn’t make the shortlist.

Michael Johnson, chairman of D&AD who was one of the judges, told the Financial Times Newspaper: “the process was always going to mitigate against good design and my worries were confirmed”.

Of the 1,100 entries in the competition seven were selected for the shortlist by the bid’s marketing team of David Magliano and Chris Denny before the judging panel saw them.

There was also criticism of the makeup of the judging panel, which includes members with no design experience.

The winning logo was chosen last week and should be unveiled within the next two weeks.
