London 2012 Bid Flag To Fly At North Pole

If only Santa Clause was an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member perhaps London would have a better chance of hosting the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

British Arctic explorer Tom Avery, an official ambassador for London 2012, is taking the London Olympic Games bid flag to the North Pole. Avery is leading a four-strong expedition that is to leave London Friday to begin final preparations in Canada before attempting to reach the North Pole in a record 38 days.

The team will reportedly cover the 483-mile journey using wooden sledges pulled by teams of Canadian Eskimo husky dogs, taking the Olympic rings to the North Pole for the first time.

Avery, a London resident, said, “the North Pole team is actively supporting London’s Olympic bid and the Olympic spirit will inspire us on our journey”.

Sebastian Coe, head of London 2012 said, “it will be fantastic to see a London 2012 flag flying at the North Pole, and it will be fantastic to bring the world’s most exciting event to London and the UK”.
