Leipzig’s Mayor Wants More Commitments In Its 2012 Bid

Leipzig’s Mayor Wolfgang Tiefensee asked Germany to support Leipzig’s bid for the 2012 Summer Games both politically and economically.

He said that Leipzig still needs more support from all the political parties in Germany.

He added that the economy must be strengthened before May 18, the date when the International Olympic Committee may cut the list of the nine bid city candidates.

The Mayor said that although International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge has asked for smaller and more economical Games in the future, if Leipzig hosts the Games they should be more moderate and family orientated.

Rogge has planned a visit to Leipzig in April.
