Leipzig 2012 Arena Officially Opens

Germany’s Minister of the Interior, Prime Minister of Saxonia and Leipzig’s Mayor officially opened the Leipzig Arena Saturday in preparation for the 2012 Summer Games, should the city become the German candidate and win the Olympic bid.

According to the Leipzig bid the arena is an “excellent infrastructure” and will help provide a compact Olympic Games. The Leipzig arena is a general-purpose sport complex with ultra-modern training facilities.

Leipzig’s arena is just one of the sports facilities which will be integrated into an Olympic Park.

In the coming months Leipzig will be staging several events including the Women’s Volleyball World Championship, and the International Ladies Tennis Grand Prix, to prove its capabilities of hosting an Olympic Games.
