Should Leipzig win the bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games 97 per cent of the sports competitions will be in Leipzig and within a 10 mile radius of the city in Dresden, Chemnitz and Riesa.
Among the competitions at Leipzig’s Olympic park will be track and field, soccer, modern pentathlon, cycling, table tennis, swimming, archery, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, gymnastics, badminton, boxing, judo, Taekwondo, hockey, beach volleyball, Triathlon, tennis, and canoeing.
Cultural events will take place in Dresden, and there will be soccer competitions in Chemnitz and Riesa.
Also, there will be 42,970 beds available for visitors to the Games within 50 kilometres of Leipzig and additional rooms in Rostock where sailing will take place and Dresden, site of the equestrian competition, raising the number of rooms to 52,720.
And according to Dieter Graf Landsberg-Velen, Vice President of the German Olympic Committee, an additional 9500 villas will be restored in Leipzig.
