Kim Un-yong’s Son Faces Extradition To U.S.

John Kim, son of Kim Un-yong, South Korean International Olympic Committee member, has been ordered by a Bulgarian court Friday to be extradited to the United States.

Kim faces charges of fraud and document forgery allegedly committed between 1995-1999 in New York.

The IOC reprimanded his father in 2000 for his involvement in the Salt Lake City Olympic bribery scandal.

Kim, who has always said he was innocent of the charges, fled to South Korea before a U.S. court charged him in September 1999 and never returned.

Bulgarian police arrested him on an Interpol warrant in May as he arrived in Paris at the invitation of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee.
