Kangwon Province was approved by the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) to be the sole South Korean bidder for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, following months of disputes with North Cholla Province.
Although North Chollo was guaranteed the right to host 32 skating events if South Korea won the bid, the KOC decided that Pyeongchang in Kangwon province will host all the events while North Cholla will acquire the right to bid for the 2014 Winter Olympics if Kangwon loses the 2010 bid.
