JOC Favours Tokyo As 2016 Candidate – Report

Kyodo reports that according to sources the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) will soon issue a report favouring Tokyo over Fukuoka to be the domestic candidate for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

The JOC will provide written indication on its decision in a report being compiled after the evaluation committee scrutinizes bid plans by both cities. The report is expected to be sent to the 55 members of the selection process next week, who will vote on August 30 to select one of the cities for the international bidding process.

Tokyo is reportedly seen by many as the odds-on favourite in the race because of its financial strength, international profile as Japan’s capital, and its experience of hosting several major international sports events.
