Italy’s Olympic Committee President Delays Italian 2016 Bid Decision

Agenzie Giornalistica Italia reports that Gianni Petrucci, President of Italy’s Olympic Committee, has delayed any decision on the Italian candidacy for the 2016 Olympic Games until the end of July because of the confusion over Rome’s candidacy.

Speaking at the national council meeting that was held Wednesday to judge the candidacies Petrucci said that at the moment the conditions of political convergence for Rome’s candidacy have not been met.

He told Rome’s Mayor Walter Veltroni, “I hope that you could convince that section, with your gifts of diplomacy, that there is still the possibility of a Roman candidacy”.

Petrucci said Tuesday he heard all members of the council of Coni agree to accept a further delay until the end of the month.
