Following a nine-day visit to Baghdad by an International Olympic Committee (IOC) delegation, the IOC reports that the majority of Iraqi national sports federations should be restored by the end of next month.
According to Reuters the delegation met 17 of the 21 national Olympic sports federations and drew up a list of athletes from various sports, which will be submitted to Olympic Solidarity and the International Federations, with the aim of organizing their preparation methods and possible selection for the forthcoming Athens 2004 Games.
A restored Iraqi NOC General Assembly will then approve the new NOC statutes and elect its executive body.
An IOC delegation will return to Iraq to supervise the holding of this General Assembly, which will constitute a new start for the Iraqi Olympic movement.
