IOC Vice President To Sue Officials Of Korea’s Olympic Bid Committee

The Korea Times reports that Kim Un-yong, Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), is suing a lawmaker and three officials of the South Korea Winter Olympic bid committee for damaging his reputation at home and abroad. Kim has asked the court to seize the properties of the three Olympic bid officials, Gong Roh-myung, Choi Man-rip and Choi Seung-ho, and Grand National Party lawmaker Kim Yong-hak.

He says the four accused him of playing a decisive role in Pyeongchang’s loss to Vancouver for the right to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Kim had earlier filed a libel suit against the four following a press conference in July, In which they claimed Kim lobbied against Pyeongchang to increase his changes of being elected IOC Vice President.

The Seoul District Court said it has accepted Kim’s request and put their properties under temporary seizure.

Kim did not say when he would file the compensation suit.
