IOC Team Continues Salzburg 2010’s Inspection

On day two of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) inspection of Salzburg’s bid for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games the group toured the planned main media center and the future Olympic Village which is now an army base, where Gerhard Heiberg, head of the evaluation commission, took time to conduct an army band.

The group also toured several venues in the Amade region. A highlight of the tour was a visit to the Tandalier Castle, which would become the International Center should Salzburg host the 2010 Games, where Olympian Herman Maier (Herminator) was waiting for the commission.

On Saturday there was a second round of presentations regarding legal aspects, customs and immigration formalities, finance, marketing, medical/health services, security, technology and Olympism, and culture.

In the evening the evaluation commission will attend a gala dinner with federal chancellor Wolfgang Schussel where more than 100 people are expected to attend.

On Sunday, the last inspection day, the commission will head to Kitzbuhel, where mens’ Alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and curling will take place.

Sunday evening there will be a press conference.
