International Olympic Committee President (IOC) Jacques Rogge will be in Vancouver Canada Nov. 14 to speak at the Vancouver Board of Trade’s annual community leadership summit.
It’s his first visit to Vancouver since the Canadian city won the bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
The theme of the two-day leadership summit will be the Olympic Games.
Rogge will also meet with Vancouver 2010’s organizing committee.
Meanwhile the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) may have some competition in its bid to broadcast the 2010 Winter Games.
CTV president Rick Brace says the network may bid for the television rights to the Games. “We’re not closing any doors”, he said. “But we really haven’t made a decision to bid. We’re certainly not there”.
IOC officials met with TV executives in Toronto last week to create interest in Olympic rights.
A TV source told the Globe and Mail that CTV will “absolutely” bid for the rights. “There’s no question in my mind that they will”, the source said.
