IOC President Pleased With Beijing 2008 Plans

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge arrived in Beijing Saturday morning and after visiting the construction sites of the National Olympic Stadium, the main Olympic Stadium, and the National Swimming Center he said he was pleased with what he saw.

“The venues will leave a great legacy for Beijing and China”, said Rogge, but added, “still of course, there’s a lot to be done. But we still have another four years now. We’re quite sure that the Games will be absolutely excellent”.

Beijing is also thinking about adjusting the location of five venues – softball, baseball, hockey, beach volleyball and tennis. The sports, other than tennis, may be moved closer to the Olympic Green, which is planned in the north part of the city.

Rogge agreed with the plan. He said it would be convenient for both athletes and spectators if venues were built within the Olympic Green. He said, “everything is very close to each other. I think it’s very good for the organization of the Games…easy access for the athletes”.
