IOC President Elected After 2 Full Ballots and a Run-Off

Buenos Aires, Argentina – After 3 rounds of voting, including a run-off vote, the IOC has elected a new president who will be announced at a ceremony at 12:30 local time in Buenos Aires, where the 125th IOC session is taking place.

Thomas Bach (Germany), Sergey Bubka (Ukraine), Richard Carrion (Puerto Rico), Ser Miang Ng, (Singapore), Denis Oswald (Switzerland) and Ching-Kuo Wu (Chinese Taipei) were in the running.

There was no majority on the first round and a run-off was required between Ng and Wu because they tied for the least number of votes; Wu lost the run-off and was eliminated.

On the next ballot, one candidate received the majority vote and was elected as President.

The second round majority seems to point to a Thomas Bach victory as he has been the perceived frontrunner throughout this campaign.
