IOC Poll Shows London 2012 Has 70 Per Cent Backing

Results of an independent poll carried out by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) became public Wednesday and showed that there was 70 per cent backing for London’s 2012 Summer Olympic bid across the United Kingdom and 68 per cent in the city of London. It was better than London 2012’s own survey which showed 68 per cent support nationwide.

Anything over 66 per cent, or two-thirds, is regarded more than adequate in IOC circles reports the London Daily Mail.

The IOC poll was carried out at the end of last year and poll results will not be officially published until May at the earliest when the IOC’s evaluation commission completes a report on the five bid cities, says Standard Sport.

Mike Lee, communications director for London 2012, refused to confirm or comment on the IOC’s poll, said the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile the IOC’s poll of Paris 2012 is understood to have shown slightly better figures than London’s.
