The Chairman of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Coordination Commission for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games, Jean-Claude Killy, is in Turin Wednesday and Thursday leading a delegation from the IOC administration meeting with TOROC for updates on its progress.
The review covers a wide range of Games-related topics such as marketing, image and look, authorities relations, ceremonies, communications, sport, venue operations, workforce and the Olympic Truce.
The review will be the last major opportunity for TOROC to show its progress to the IOC before the full Coordination Commission meeting, which will be held in Turin at the end of November.
Meanwhile, 25,000 volunteers belonging to the Noi2006 program are expected to take part in the 2006 Games. Five thousand volunteers will form part of the ceremony program and the other 20,000 will form part of the Noi2006 team that will be involved in other elements of the Games, including providing help and assistance to spectators, athletes and team officials, journalists, representatives of the National Olympic Committees, sponsors and guests. They will also be present at competition venues, in the stands, the Olympic Villages, in the stadiums, and anywhere else where they are needed.
The Ceremony Volunteer Programme began in February and applications are still being accepted. Turin 2006 is still looking for about 5,000 volunteers to participate in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. About 3,500 volunteers will work as dancers, actors, skaters, gymnasts, acrobats, musicians, and entertainers; while the other 1,500 will be production assistants working behind the scenes.
