An IOC delegation including Turin 2006 coordination commission president Jean Claude Killy, Sport Director Gilbert Felli and Olympic Game co-ordination manager Christophe Dubi, visited Turn Italy, site of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
At the end of the visit Killy said, “the Torino 2006 Olympic sites reflect the sport and tradition binomial of the city of Torino. Structures such as the ex-General Market and Palazzo Vela join past and future. The Games are confirmed as an opportunity”.
The delegation asked for detailed information on each facility, including construction times and costs.
President Valentino Castellani said, “the IOC delegation appreciated the inspiring principle of the 2006 Games in their visit: a complex city-planning design that will change the face of the city and not only a collection of sports facilities. I am very satisfied of the impression they had and the positive comments they expressed”.
The delegation visited Stadio della Alpi in the morning, and then toured areas where the Media Villages will be constructed. They then went to Torino Esposizioni where the hockey games will be played.
In the afternoon they visited the site of the Olympic Village where 2,500 athletes and about 1,000 journalists will be housed, the venue for short track and skating, hockey, and the site where the Ice Stadium will be constructed.
