Dennis Oswald, newly appointed head of the Coordination Commission charged with overseeing preparations for the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, expressed his complete confidence that London will stage an “excellent Games”.
Oswald said he believes the “stakes are too high” for London to fail. “I have no concerns over London’s ability to stage the Games. We have had a very strong commitment from the government and I don’t see any risk”.
He added, “London has already taken lessons from Athens by starting to appoint an organizing committee very quickly. This is a very good sign. The situation in Greece was very specific, very political. We do not anticipate the same problems in London”.
Oswald said he was confident in the ability of London and Great Britain to build the necessary facilities on time.
“London should start as early as possible in order to take into account possible delays and unexpected difficulties”.
Gilbert Felli, executive director for the commission, said better communication between them and London would result in fewer problems. “We have a master schedule in place which will tally with London’s schedule. We know more or less on a day-to-day basis where we are with projects. We did not have this in Athens”.
