IOC Approves Sochi 2014 Logo

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced its approval of Sochi 2014’s new logo at a press conference Friday in Sochi.

According to Sochi 2014 the updated logo, which now reads “Candidate City”, still features all of the key elements that were present on the bid’s logo in the first phase of the race. The logo’s colours match the colours of the Russian flag – white, blue and red. The blue stripe symbolized the colour of the winter sky in Sochi, the red zigzag symbolizes the mountain peaks of its Krasnaya Polyana ski resort, the white background symbolizes snow – the pillar of winter sports, and the white and blue snowflake symbolizes winter sports.

One change was the direction of the red zigzag symbolizing Sochi’s mountains. The new red line follows from left to right and from the bottom to the top. This new line communicates the idea of growth, a targeted approach and dynamism, says Sochi 2014.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 said, “we are now approaching the second stage of the bidding process. This autumn, our national promotion campaign takes off. The objectives of this campaign are to increase the knowledge of Russian citizens about the country’s advantages to hosing the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Today we are proud to present the new logo for Sochi 2014 – the dynamic and colourful symbol of our passion for victory”.
