International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge gave his approval to the Beijing 2008 logo saying the design was “young, dynamic –bringing together the historical and cultural heritage, as well as the future of China”.
He called it “a perfect Olympic emblem”.
The IOC’s Hein Verbruggen said it was “an extremely strong logo for the 2008 Games. It achieves the objectives laid about by BOCOG and is a further confirmation of the quality and standard of the work we have come to expect from the Organizing Committee”.
Jiang Xiaoyu, vice president of the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee, said the fact that the logo has won the official approval of the IOC, the project of the visual image and city landscape of the BOGOC has entered a new stage.
The plan for market development will be fully kicked off the last ten days of May.
Jiang revealed that the BOGOC and the IOC will begin registering the insignia in China and in the world to get lawful protection and to exercise other relevant legal procedures.
According to Jiang there are three special characteristics for the Beijing 2008 logo. The first is that it has fully displayed the brilliant Chinese civilization in the past several thousand years. Second is a full expression of the spiritual image of the Olympic aims, to go in for “the faster, the higher and the strong” with the stress laid on the sportsmen and a healthy, upward spirit. Third is a full reflection of the present-day China in which there is not only a long and brilliant history but also an atmosphere of modern times, having made a better combination of the past and the future, culture and sports and the cultures in the orient and of the west.
The official unveiling of the logo will take place in Beijing on May 25.
