The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board has approved Greece’s plans for the torch relay, but the board demanded that Havana, Leipzig and Madrid, cities bidding for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, be added to the original list of 34 cities. Now the torch will visit 37 cities in all five continents.
Madrid had communicated with the IOC in February asking to be added to the list.
Although the Olympic torch will be in Munich on June 29 and Berlin on June 30, officials for Leipzig 2012 are uncertain as to when the torch will visit their city.
