In what is normally an Olympic bid formality, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee today accepted all of the five candidate bids for the final election ballot.
The IOC reserves the option of excluding any of the bids from the final vote as they did in 1999 when they chose to put only two of the six bids on the ballot. That was in the wake of the bribery scandal and Turin went on to beat Sion to host the upcoming 2006 Winter Games.
This time the Executive Board had to decide whether New York still qualifies for the ballot after their last-minute venue changes that included a new Olympic stadium plan. The IOC’s acceptance indicates that New York’s plans have been approved.
The vote will take place in Singapore on Wednesday.
