If PyeongChang wins its bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games transportation will be more convenient because of new international routes planned for Yangyang International Airport.
It is expected that most international visitors would arrive at Incheon Airport near Seoul, now the main entry point for visitors from overseas to South Korea. Visitors will then be able to transfer by air to Yangyang or travel on to PyeongChang by rail or road. PyeongChang 2014 officials say due to the increasing number of direct flights to Yangyang Airport a significant number of international visitors will be able to fly there directly.
Kim Jin-sun, Governor of Gangwon Province and Executive President of the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games bid committee said, “establishing a regular route from Changchun in China to Yangyang Airport is an important step for the promotion of winter sports in Asia. If PyeongChang is awarded the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Yangyang Airport will be a convenient entry point for many of our international guests”.
