Following the first visit of the Paralympic Games Liaison Committee of the International Paralympic Games (IPC) last week, Francois Terranova, Chairperson of the IPC Games Liaison Committee said, “this is a great opportunity for Turin and the whole of Italy to enhance the visibility of sports for athletes with a disability and the visibility of the community of those with a disability as a whole”.
Twelve hundred participants from more than 40 countries will attend the Games, which take place shortly after the Olympic Winter Games, from March 10 to 19. They will use the same sports facilities as the Turin 2006 Winter Games.
The athletes will compete in four sports – Alpine skiing, ice sledge hockey, Nordic skiing and wheelchair curling – a new sport added to the Paralympic program in Turin.
