Fears that New Delhi’s bid for the 2010 Commonwealth Games might be affected because India withdrew from the South Asian Federation (SAF) Games have prompted The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to ask for India’s participation in the Games
Reports say the IOA will approach Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and request him to allow the Indian contingent’s participation in the coming Games, scheduled to be held in Islamabad from March 29 to April 7.
The Union Government cited the current state of bilateral relations between the two countries and the security environment in Pakistan.
IOA president Suresh Kalmadi said, “we are disappointed that such a decision has been taken with only a month remaining for the Games”.
Hamilton Canada is New Delhi’s only rival for the 2010 Games.
