Indian Olympic Association (IOA) secretary general Randhir Singh told China television that India should bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games because by that time the athletes will be in a position to win several medals. He said, “logically, India should start its Olympic bid process for the 2020, as by then our athletes will be in a position to show their worth and we could be among the top few nations in medals tally.
“Now we have 2010 Commonwealth Games and hopefully if we get 2014 Asian Games then we can always go on to make a concerted bid for 2020 Olympics”, he said.
The secretary general added that holding big Games does not only mean just creating infrastructure and sponsors but more importantly preparing the athletes for whom these Games are being organized.
He said the best way to improve our standard is to have world level sports meets at our home and the second is to give more exposure to the athletes in various international competitions.
