British Columbia’s Premier Gordon Campbell announced Monday $45 million in funding for the production of 20 state-of-the-art fuel-cell buses and hydrogen fuelling stations in Whistler and Victoria British Columbia (B.C.). The buses would arrive in Whistler in late 2009, in time for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Whistler is hosting several events during the Games.
The Whistler Question reports Premier Campbell saying the buses are an integral part of B.C.’s plan to protect the environment and reduce its greenhouse gas emission. He said in a statement “this is the type of project we can look to as we move to reduce B.C.’s greenhouse gas emissions by 33 per cent by 2020”.
Meanwhile, Whistler Councillor Eckhard Zeidler said he’s concerned about Whistler and its three million transit riders being used as a testing ground for unproven technology.
