Reuters reports that Hong Kong is considering loosening import rules for horses competing at the Beijing 2008 Games after some countries said the quarantine period was too long.
Horses competing in equestrian events being held in Hong Kong for the 2008 Games have to undergo seven days of pre-export isolation in special quarantine stables in global transport hubs around the world, then 10 days of isolation when they arrive in Hong Kong.
The whole process could take almost a month when travel time and extra days tacked onto some horses quarantine in Hong Kong awaiting the arrival of all the competitors, are added on.
