Halifax’s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games now has three corporate sponsors according to the Daily News, who, with its parent company Transcontinental Media, are the second “Founding Partner” supporting Halifax’s 2014 bid. Transcontinental’s support is valued at $500,000.
In November Keith’s Brewery became the first “Founding Partner” of the Games when it pledged to donate to the bid $1 from every case of beer sold in the province up to $500,000, and the law firm McInnis Cooper, and RCR Hospitality Group each pledged $50,000 to the bid.
Fred MacGillivray, president and chairman of the Halifax 2014 bid committee, said winning corporate support for the Games is a key element of the bid. He said, “it sends great messages to our three levels of government partners – the corporate community is also very interested in this, as well as the general public”.
The bid will cost $14.3 million, and more than 30 per cent will be paid for by business sponsors. MacGillivray said, “when we have support like this it’s a huge asset”.
