Greenpeace has reportedly warned London 2012 officials that the 2012 Games risk being “tarnished” by their partnership with BP.
Marketing Week reports London 2012 is backing BP despite the company being the subject of international condemnation following the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Ben Ayliffe, Greenpeace senior climate campaigner, said London 2012 needs to “think carefully” about whether the sponsorship money from BP is worth the “shadow that it will cast over their brand”.
LOCOG says BP remains a “valued” partner of the Games.
Meanwhile BP’s share price has reportedly plummeted.
According to Marketing Week, BP is said to have paid 50 million pounds to sponsor the London 2012 Games
When asked whether the partnership was at risk following the oil disaster a BP spokeswoman declined to comment.
